About Owen
Owen Richards is currently a second year transfer student at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music studying Music Education under Dr. Lily Chen-Hafteck and Dr. Johanna Gamboa-Kroesen and Saxophone under Dr. Jan Berry Baker. Owen has been living and breathing music ever since their first day of fifth grade in 2011, playing saxophone in the beginning band, and has had teaching experience in some form or another since their Junior year of high school, when they ran a Saxophone Ensemble and held the position of Drum Major at Santa Barbara High School, among other things.
At UCLA, Owen has played in the Wind Ensemble, Game Music Ensemble, Contemporary Jazz Ensemble, Thai Music Ensemble and many Chamber ensembles including a Sax Quartet and Octet, and now a Reed Quintet through the Gluck Fellowship named MODEM Reeds where they play bass clarinet.
Owen's passion for Music Education was sparked by their High School band teacher, who was an immense support to all of her students, and fostered a encouraging and respectful environment that consistently enriched their lives through music. Owen strives to give their own students that same sense of comradery and comfort the classroom, and teach students the life skill's to not only excel in music but also in every avenue of their lives.
